Design Museum Den Bosch – international loan transport and custom packing

The project
For the exhibition Trans Europa Design Express – a journey through five design collections, Design Museum Den Bosch joined forces with four leading European design museums to bring together a selection of unique objects. The exhibition took visitors along highlights of design history from Brussels, Lessac, Lausanne and Milan. From iconic furniture to surprising everyday objects, it showed how design took shape across Europe and continues to influence our lives today.
The challenges
The loans were extensive and diverse, coming from four different countries. In total, more than 70 objects from the museums in Brussels and Lausanne were included, in addition to many more from France and Italy. Materials varied widely, from glass and metal to wood and plastics. Several objects required highly specialized packing. A striking cactus-shaped piece needed a custom-made transport frame, while delicate glass pinball machine backboards were carefully secured in climate crates. The large variety in formats and volume added another layer of complexity to the project.
Our plan of action
For each object we developed a tailored packing solution. For the 35 objects from Lausanne and 42 objects from Brussels, our arthandlers provided new crates and shadow boxes. The custom transport frame for the cactus ensured that the fragile object could be moved safely and securely. The pinball backboards were protected in a solution that combined maximum safety with transport efficiency. Thanks to the close cooperation with the lending museums and clear communication with all partners involved, the different transport routes connected seamlessly.

The result
The exhibition at Design Museum Den Bosch was delivered with the highest level of care for the collections. The objects arrived safely, were installed according to plan, and returned afterwards to their museums in perfect condition. For us, this project was a valuable collaboration with European colleagues, once again showing our strength in combining tailor-made packing with international art transport.
