Picturae – removal, transport and storage Courtauld Institute of Art London
Client
Challenges
The collection consisted of 19,139 boxes of fragile documents stored in the basements of Somerset House. The challenge lay in safely unloading and transporting these fragile pieces across 1.4 km of shelf space, and ensuring proper climatic conditions during storage.
Plan of action
Our team worked for days to carefully unload the boxes in London, after which they were brought to the Netherlands via multiple transports. In our climate-controlled depot, the documents were safely stored and transported to the digitization site in weekly batches.
Result
Through careful planning and meticulous execution, the collection has been safely stored and is being digitized incrementally. Upon completion of the project, the collection will be returned to London for long-term storage.
