Design Museum Den Bosch – transport and art handling
The project
For the exhibition Design for the Planet, we managed the full transport process on behalf of Design Museum Den Bosch. This museum focuses on contemporary design and explores social issues through the lens of design. The exhibition ran from September 2024 to January 2025 and included works from the museum’s own collection, complemented by numerous loans from both national and international lenders. We were responsible for the transport and installation of several key objects. In February 2025, the return shipments were carried out.
The challenges
The exhibition featured a wide variety of objects, provided by thirteen different lenders. Each item had specific requirements, depending on its material, size, and fragility. Two large artworks required special attention due to their scale and installation method. Additional complexity came from international logistics, courier supervision, and the individual handling instructions from various lenders.
Our plan of action
Every lender was consulted in advance to determine the appropriate packing and transport method for their objects. In some cases, dedicated couriers accompanied the works. The installation of the larger objects was carefully prepared, including a technical online meeting with the lender. On site, a gantry crane and a team of experienced art handlers were used. The installation was completed under courier supervision. The return logistics followed the same careful planning.
The result
The exhibition was delivered and installed on time and according to plan. Through close coordination with all parties – including lenders, couriers, and the museum – the project was executed smoothly. The de-installation and return transport were also successfully completed.
