KOG Rijksmuseum – packaging and transportation of historic paper collections
The project
The KOG-Metamorfoze project, a collaboration between the Rijksmuseum and Royal Historical Society (KOG), focuses on preserving and digitizing six paper collections, such as historical maps, manuscripts and architectural drawings. The goal is to make these collections accessible online. Imming Logistics Fine Art was chosen to pack, transport and return these valuable documents.
The challenges
The fragility of the paper collections called for custom packaging that protected their fragility. The shipments had to be carefully coordinated with digitization deadlines and performed across multiple locations. Ensuring safety during packaging and transportation essential to maintaining the condition of objects perfectly.
Our plan of action
We developed a detailed logistics plan. The first shipment took place in late winter, bringing the Atlas Amsterdam and the Architecture and Design drawings to the digitization service provider. After digitization, these were returned to the depot in the spring. Each collection was packed and transported with safety and planning in mind.
The result
Thanks to our structured approach, the sub-collections were safely returned to the KOG depot on time. Digitization of the Atlas Amsterdam and the Architecture and Design Drawings has been completed and the remaining collections are being processed on schedule. This project demonstrates our expertise in safely packaging and transporting fragile paper collections.
