Westfries Museum – move out, transport and storage
The project
The Westfries Museum in Hoorn is an important cultural history museum focusing on the Golden Age and the history of West Friesland. The museum closed in January 2023 for a major renovation and expansion. Imming Logistics Fine Art was tasked with packing, transporting and storing more than 36,000 museum objects, including 3.5-meter-high gunnery pieces. These large works required specially designed crates and meticulously planned transportation. Our expertise in safely moving and storing historic objects was essential to this project.
The challenges
The biggest challenge was safely packing and transporting the large shooter pieces. These were lifted from the museum by crane and loaded into our low deck art trailer, which is perfectly suited due to its extra interior height. All objects had to meet strict museum standards for packaging and storage in our climate-controlled depot.
Our plan of action
We used custom-made crates and crane transport for the large works of art. Every day, multiple art handling teams took care of packing and transporting the remaining objects. The entire collection was stored in our art depot under controlled conditions. Planning and execution took place in close cooperation with the museum.
The result
The collection, including the large archer pieces, was moved safely and on schedule to our depot. Thanks to our custom crates and crane transport, everything went off without a hitch. This project demonstrates our expertise in the safe relocation and storage of large and fragile objects, ensuring the museum’s safe reinstatement after the renovation.
